A Green Energy Revolution

How can the world move, within just a decade or two, towards fossil-free societies where the glaring inequalities in the world are also being addressed?

What would a global “Marshall plan” for climate and development look like, which achieves both these goals in a win-win manner? Is it possible?

At this seminar, the new UN report ‘Promoting Development, Saving the Planet’ was presented and discussed. This visionary report argues that it is indeed possible to both promote development and save the planet, but that a set of tools quite different from what is currently on the climate negotiating table will be needed. The report proposes a public investment approach to address the need to both transform energy production and expand access by the poor to energy services, and the use of tools such as feed-in tariffs to subsidise investments in renewable energy.
