Climate
Going Fossil-Free
How can the EU and Sweden take the lead?
Sweden, the EU and other industrialised countries need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent by 2020. How can this be achieved, while at the same time building a better society? Sweden could make an important contribution by taking the lead to show that this is possible. Ambitious domestic reduction targets in the EU are likely to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness. They will also be necessary for rebuilding trust in relation to developing countries and opening up for discussions on global emissions targets.
What is the positive vision of a fossil-free society that is climate friendly, attractive and provides a high quality of life? What is the role of the private sector in getting there, and what opportunities would it open up?
The seminar will be held at the SSNC annual conference in Stockholm on November 6. Speakers will include several CEOs of Swedish companies that participate in SSNC’s Climate Relay. The Relay urges industrialised nations to reduce greenhouse gases by at least 40 percent by the year 2020 and to substantiallty strengthen their support for climate investments, in addition to aid, in developing countries.
